Joseph Check Photographer
Travelling by horse and cart from the 1880s to the 1930s, Joe visited hundreds of tiny emerging towns around NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.
Capturing many industrial plants and mine sites alongside townsfolk portraits, Joe recorded history where few other photographers ventured.
Women of the WAAAF
Between 1941 and 1945, 24,000 Australian women joined the RAAF and became the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force.
They were posted at bases all over Australia, serving their country and undertaking a huge variety of tasks from clerical to aircraft maintenance.
Richmond River
The Northern Rivers of NSW was settled in the early 1800s. Many photographers visited the district and recorded the development of the towns and movements on the waterways.
